How To Publish Fiction

How much profit can an author expect from a published fiction novel?
I know that there are a lot of variables. Let’s say you get your fiction novel published by a good to respectable publisher what is the average income you should expect. I understand that we all should not be expecting the Harry Potter 1-billion mark, but is it reasonable to expect to receive around $8,000-10,000 as an average?
I think after everything is paid off you should expect some royalty checks to come in. But as far as 8-10,000, that still seems a bit…off, but I do agree it’s reasonable.
Best of luck to ya’.
