Question about old/rare books- “Conscience History of the American People” by JH Patton?
My grandpa and I found a copy of this book from 1876 in our library upstairs. It’s in very good condition and looks to be published in 1876 by JB Ford & Company. We’re curious about its worth; is this a rare book? Is it worth anything? We started reading it- it’s pretty interesting! And the passages about the “savage aborigines” are worth a chuckle. Thanks!
Are you sure that’s not A Concise History of the American People? If so, ABE books http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=jacob+harris+patton&bi=0&bx=off&ds=30&sortby=2&sts=t&tn=a+concise+history+of+the+american+people&x=36&y=3&yrh=1882&yrl=1876 has several copies that range from $8 to $55. However, the oldest is from 1881. ABE is always a good place to check to see if they have the book and how much is being asked for it. Since yours is from 1876, it may be worth a bit more.
If you want more than an estimate, you could take the book to a book appraiser for an estimate. I haven’t used this site http://www.booksappraised.com/ but supposedly you can get an appraisal online.
